State cyberattacks are on the rise. Although these are mostly „just“ to spy on diplomats and policymakers, some cyberattacks are aimed at disrupting critical infrastructure. Thus, in spring 2021, the idea of a digital Geneva Convention on State Cyberattacks emerged at the UN. The time is ripe for such a convention to circumvent „real“ hybrid wars fought with combat drones, among other things. There has long been talk of a digital cold war. All efforts must be intensified to prevent worse.
